The crag at El Vellón lies directly above the reservoir, giving it an exposed aspect with little natural shade. The rock is calcarenite (a sandy limestone), forming short walls and steep sections up to around 10–15 metres in height. Climbing is predominantly sport, with routes typically technical and often bouldery in character, featuring vertical to overhanging terrain.
The approach is brief, usually taking around 5–10 minutes from the roadside. Conditions are best in cooler weather due to full sun exposure, while fluctuating reservoir levels can occasionally affect access to the base of some routes. Overall, it is a small but well-frequented venue, valued for its convenience and concentrated climbing style.
Tiene un acceso muy sencillo con menos de cinco minutos de aproximación desde el aparcamiento. Tiene un tipo de escalada claramente explosiva, donde encontraremos vías cortas (no más de 12-15 metros) con pequeños desplomes.
